Details

A building envelope refers to the design and construction of the exterior, including the roof, exterior doors and windows, and exterior walls. A good building envelope denotes the use of exterior wall materials and designs that are climate friendly and structurally sound. In this context, the EU-funded ENSNARE project will strive to increase the implementation of renovation packages through digitalisation of the entire process and development of an industrialised envelope mesh enabling fast assembly and interconnection of passive and multifunctional building components. Three pilot renovation projects will validate the ENSNARE solution, which links to a digital model that serves as a digital twin of the renovated building.

ENSNARE’s main objective is to boost the implementation of renovation packages through (1) the digitalisation of the entire process by means of a digital platform and (2) the development of an industrialised envelope mesh enabling fast assembly and interconnection of passive and multifunctional building components. The methodology and tools provided will facilitate the necessary market uptake of novel and highly efficient solutions for nZEB, accelerating the current retrofitting rate and supporting the transformation of the European building stock into a highly efficient and technologically advanced built environment.

List of achievements

The ENSNARE solution will be validated through 3 pilot renovation projects covering Nordic, Continental and Mediterranean climates, and 3 virtual demonstration buildings aimed at upscaling the development of the solution. These demonstrators have been selected to show the replication possibilities of the project, mostly in terms on advanced and improved retrofitting activities. The buildings have been chosen to represent the largest European construction residential market in different climatic conditions (Estonia, Bulgaria and Italy for Demos and UK, Italy and Netherland for the virtual ones) and different architectural implementations. The adoption of different seized buildings (~ 500 m2, ~ 1000m2 and ~ 3000m2) to be renovated with a different level of previous energy consumption level (80 – 200 kWhm2) allows to test and scale up procedures aiming to provide relevant inputs to study the industrialization, mass production and economy of scale based measurements to be adopted.
